The Black Currant Bakehouse is the wife and husband team of Katie Marggraf and Jesse Ives. With a combined background of 20 years in the foodservice industry, we’ve done it all. We’ve been bread bakers, sous chefs, baristas, cake decorators, dishwashers, linecooks, bartenders, pastry chefs, and more. Alongside our desire to live and work in Harbor Country, our love of bringing happiness through food and hospitality led us to create this beachside bakery and cafe that we hope serves as a lively stomping grounds for locals and vacationers alike.
Katie and Jesse took over the historic Ramberg’s Bakery kitchen in 2016 after it sat empty for a few years, waiting for a whole lotta love, energy, and paint! We kept the old oven and some other large appliances, but decided to give everything else a makeover. The nostalgia of Ramberg’s remains in the air, but the fresh breath of some modern ideas, conveniences, and recipes moves us forward. It’s so important to us to cater to the needs of all our customers, which is why we are offering everything from traditional greasy doughnuts to vegan cookies to muffins with no gluten or refined sugar. We are also dedicated to utilizing as much of the local and seasonal bounty that Michigan has to offer, including coffee and espresso from Uncommon Coffee Roasters in Saugatuck.
Now grab a treat and get back to the beach!
